Crescent trade name questions come up so often, I went ahead and made a Folsom/Crescent/American Gun Co./Davis PictureTrail album
http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/20091267
Please correct anything I posted if you have better information, and I'd be happy to add a few more examples of Folsom Belgian made guns.

Here is some of Mr. Bakers ad info for Belgian clunker luvers out there: .....to achieve the ridiculously low price both the quality of the materials and the time spent by the workmen had to be reduced to an absolute minimum. Wood was used for stocks that in reality was suitable only for firewood. Locks and other moving parts were filed from soft iron instead of hardened steel and so wore rapidly to produce in short order a gun that rattled when shaken. The wear in the lockwork produced a dangerous situatuion when the trigger pressure could either become so light that the lock fired as if it had a 'hair trigger', or conversely became so heavy that the proverbial traction engine was required to pull the trigger.....The catalogue of defects covers every part of the gun, literally from muzzle to heel plate.

The book the;"Golden Age of Shotgunning,"First published in 1971,by author. Bob Hinman[A former editor of the Shooting Times, U.S.A.], pages 136-142, describes the Folsom & Crescent products and business in detail. Appendix A in this book pages 127-163 provides a very comprehensive listing of known gunmakers/dealers operating in the U.S.A. from the 1870,s through the early 1900,s. This is a "MUST' book for those interested in tracing the origin of guns marketed in the period mentioned above.

Roy,

You always enhance my library list. Are there any other books on American makers of this period that you would recommend?
