A relevant reference source is the book,"Ten Rare Gun Catalogs, 1860-1889 compiled by John T.Amber.Published and copyrighted in 1952 by Greenberg ,Corporation.
If you have an interest in rifles, the book , Modern American Rifles,by A.C.Gould published in 1892 provides information on rifles of the day, manufacturing methods and a tremendous amount of information on all that pertains to rifle shooting.

Turns out H.&D. Folsom were Henry and David, but I don't know if they were brothers or cousins. Pics of both are up

For the one of us still interested in this, looks like Henri Pieper and Louis Muller were the major Belgian makers of Folsom imported guns. Muller registered twelve trademarks 1889 to 1894 including: Acme Arms Co., Club, Climax, Star, Crescent and Crescent Arms Co., Rival, Standard, Meteor, and I.X.L.
Here's a W. Richard by Muller (at least he added 'Belgium')

Wilmot by Peiper

Here's a Lefaucheaux Action W. Richards, but I don't find 'DD' on PeteM's list of marks DD in an oval lying was used by Jean Delcour-Dupont de Fraipont-Nessonvaux

Stanley Arms Co. was made by Francois Dumoulin http://www.littlegun.be/arme%20belge/art...%20cie%20gb.htm
Later T. Barkers may have been made by Theate who's mark was 'TF' in a rectangle

Unless I can find independent documentation, the mark doesn't make it onto the list. There were simply too many maker's marks that are still unaccounted for.

On occasion I send things to Alain at LittleGun to be sure. I wish I could provide more information for each maker/mark. As it stands with over 1,000 confirmed marks, it is the most concise listing I am aware of. If I had a couple weeks I know I could add a few hundred more by digging into catalogs and other documentation I have.

Recently got a listing of hundreds of makers marks through out Europe, mostly 16th, 17th and 18th century, "Marques D'Armuriers". It will be a long time before I get that info online. I will have to scan every mark from that one.

I am hoping for even more soon from a newly formed research group in Europe.

Pete
