According to Fjestad's Blue Book, Nikko was a trade name used on guns made by the Kodensha Co. Nikko was not a manufacturer. Nikko is the name of the prefecture(district) in which Tochigi City is located. Kodensha Co. was in Tochigi City.
Fjestad's writeup is a page and a half of pretty good history on this subject.
It's well worth reading for anyone interested in the complicated and sometimes confusing history of these companies.
