I have been using Acra-Glass for over 40 years. I have used others and found that nothing is better. The secret is to use the correct mix, 4 to 1, (2.0cc resin, 0.5cc hardner) I use a syringe and can make one kit last a long, long, time. If you are careful and clean the syringes, they can be reused many times. Jerry

I throw my vote for Acra-Glass, using the Acra-Glass thinner to really get it in deep. Not saying there's not something better, this has just worked great for me.

I find Araldite is a useful, and almost invisible, filler when mixed with fine dust from papering the stock. the dust that comes off is the same as the wood and the set mixture just looks like a knot or a streak in the grain when set and oil-finished.

West System epoxy is terrific. Expensive but great to work with. Have done quite a few repair and fiberglass jobs with the stuff.

Acraglass and heat gun to get in cracks, West system for large areas (simply because I have a good deal left from some boat work), MicroBed for bedding small areas to wood stocks where it might show, and Devcon Steel bed for bedding larger rifles.

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

I just attacked some fine cracks. Using both the spread and squeeze technique and the blast from a heat gun, it seemed to flow in very well. Used Devcon 2-ton epoxy. Talked to a tech. at Brownell's and he said when epoxy goes, it will not set up. If it sets up, it's OK. My Acra-Gel is 8 years old. Unfortunately, it's only available now with a glue gun applicator and too expensive for me.
Thanks again to all,

FWIW;

Just called Brownells, Inc. to confirm death of Acraglas Gel. Tech says it ain't so. There was a two sqeeze tube version discontinued due to leakage. The glue gun variation is available as Jim said. Brownells still has a two gun kit, 16 oz. Shop kit, and bulk supplies available for your needs. Looked it up on line and the product is still listed for purchase. I usually buy the bulk and mix it by hand. So far so good. I do prefer the Acraglas liquid, mixed with fiberglass, for bedding and crack repair. The exception is for cracks deep down and then I thin the mixture with acraglas solvent and use air to move it down the crack for a good hold. Binding is with surgical tubing.
