Today, I watched a hunting show- I believe it was called MacDonalds Adventures or something like that. He was hunting bear in Alaska with a T/C muzzleloader rifle and I noticed that the muzzle was completely covered over with something. It looked like duct tape. Why do they do that? Is it to keep the ball from falling out of the barrel?

Muzzle - of any hunting gun, not just muzzleloaders - is sometimes taped to keep out any unwanted material (water, small branches, etc.) while hunting, especialy so in rough terrain and bad weather. This was recommended by P.O. Ackley in one of his books and I followed it for a while but now I mostly just check the bore for any obstructions from time to time.

Jimmy, I have also seen guns with small balloons stretched over the muzzle, as above poster said, to keep water, dirt, out.

A finger off latex med exam glove is much less expensive than a precious condom.
