Just for the heck of it, check out Old World Walnut. Bill Dowtin's imported stuff. Maybe even give him a call - great guy to talk to and deal with. Don't cost anything to look, unless you look too long and see a blank you can't live without.

Thanks for the advice. I just bought a blank from the Richters that should make a beautiful stock. I wish all wood dealers would so thoroughly photograph blanks you are looking to buy. I doubt I could have made a better inspection with the blank in hand.

Unfortunately they tell me that what they have listed is the last of their stock of English walnut. They say there are no more old thin shelled walnut trees in their area. What a shame.
