Mike , Wilbur left Vt. the mid 60's. But that is a story in itself. I'll post it under the topic Wilbur J Hauck, which I started earlier. Give me a day to dig through my photos. Paul Driscoll

The car is a Lanica B 24 early 50's -V-6 -Transmisson with rear axle, aluminum body, actually not a special! Looks like the one I let get away,my son rolls his eyes, when I mention cool cars I let get away, including a Ferrai 250 GT. Oh well that means SS rifles are what I am suposed to collect. Dick Stack

Roger was the owner and student of the unusual in cars, rifles, shotguns, and other items of interest. How was his collection disposed of? He was almost a neighbor, but I never met him.

Thanks for the answers, Paul and Dick! Look forward to any more photos, for sure.

Did Hauck's single shot action (or actions, if there were several types) have any significant advantage over existing designs?

I understand that by the 1960s the original actions that could take high pressure ctgs.(Hi-wall, Borchardt, Stevens 44 1/2, etc.) were getting scarcer and more expensive, and the Ruger #1 wasn't here yet, so he was filling a small but significant (to us rifle loonies) niche market. But did his action add anything important to the design of single shot actions?

Eightbore, sorry you didn't get to meet him. I was invited to visit him at his mountain home outside of Luray when he lived there. Roger brought out numerous guns to point out details he felt were important to me as an engraver & he was right. I was amased at how genous he was with his time & help. You would have liked Roger !

Can anyone supply a photo of the Hauck "Rigid Side Mount" mentioned on his business card above?

Roger Barlow was in business in Los Angeles circa 1950 dba International Motors. My Jag Special was built in his shop by Phil Hill (for Hill's brother-in-law Don Parkison) after hitting a tree at the 1951 Pebble Beach races. We still run it at the West Coast Vintage races. Barlow's interest in those ultra light O/U Bretton guns has caused me to consider buying one several times - but thus far I've managed to avoid doing so.

Terry, funny you should mention the Baby Brettons. I have wanted one ever since Roger wrote about them. Every time I have had one in my hands, my whole outlook changes. Maybe some day I will write the check and take one home.
