Hard to tell but could that be a Sako? They had that problem documented a couple of years ago.

Might be an A BOLT, almost certainly something in the barrel. Would point out, look at their demeanor throughout, appear to be inexperienced. Look at the clothing. Not much of a rest for that long shot. Did you see any elk? How far away was that bugle, when you do that on geese its called skybusting. They might have wounded something but they were,nt going to kill it.

Agree Wykose- this fellow was new to the rifle and to rifle shooting: Had on gloves-then finally removed the one on his trigger finger hand- was uncomfortable working the bolt-had a carry sling, but did not have a loop for a three point lock in the standing position-scope was mounted too high-as seen by his raised cheek on the stock comb-also poor "eye relief"-my guess as to what caused the barrel to rupture ahead of the receiver? It might have been a cleaning patch left in the bore, hard to say!!RWTF

The Mythbusters tried to get the "banana peel" effect by plugging up barrels on an old Damascus 10 bore hammer gun and couldn't. They also tried with a healthy rifle and also failed; I think it was a Remington.

Those guys should give them the recipe. Lucky no one was hurt.

The problem was with Sako Finnlight. Sako used wrong steel and greogen process was wrong.
Probably this rifle in video got the same problem, barrel blows up the same way all Sako rifles did.

Good theories, all, but if you did some methodical sleuthing you would find that the absent moose had crept up behind said hunter and packed the gun's barrel with mountain goat pellets.

We have it all - motive, means, and just who do you think was holding the video camera?

A lot of wordus, running with fox.
It was 2-3 years ago brand new Sako Finnlight's blown up under cold weather conditions. Sako said they were very sorry about that, cryogenic process was wrong for this type of steel, they replaced all rifle been made with these barrels.

Staged, maybe? Does anyone find it more than a little odd that the video clearly focuses on the muzzle of the rifle, not the action, not the shooter, not downrange? And when the gun goes off he just says, "Oh my gosh, what the..." and then walks over to watch the second guy shoot, camera in tow.
