I'll have you all know that a certain Lady of my acquaintance, the mother of one of my chums and a product of much-vaunted (Tidewater, don't you know!) Newport News, VA, no less, once most emphatically informed me that the proper term was "you all", and that "yawl" was merely one type of small sailboat. Of course She also insisted that "ain't" couldn't possibly be a real word because it wasn't in the dictionary, but since that's no longer true I continue to say "y'all" and "all y'all" and even "you all" when feeling especially formal. I never, however, would be caught dead saying "all you all"; enough is entirely too much of some things (BG).

Progress on my Borchardt is going very slowly at present, I'm well over my heart problems (fingers crossed)but with the onset of Autumn the Arthritis in my right hand returns. At present my right hand looks like it's an eagles claw in the closed position. Any movement is very painful indeed and I don't like operating machinery with only one hand. Heck it's difficult enough to drive my stick shift motor vehicle when it hits me.
If you cannot find any suitable horn drop me a line with what size(s)you need. I tried to PM you but I couldn't get to message to send.
Things will improve in the Spring, they always do. Winter has hit early here this year, we have had snow fall during the last three days, we don't usually get it until late January. Im in my mid 60's now and I cannot recollect snow in November ever.

Y'all is never correctly used in reference to only one person. It usually refers to a person and his group, family, collegues, or to everyone that is present. The people included is recognized by the context of the conversation or situation. If more than one group is present then "all y'all" may be appropriate. If a true Southerner were to say, "Glenn, y'all come over for some possum." It means Glenn and his family or group.

I used to get these plates from a guy named Don Brown in Yakima (509-996-4191) who marketed a English Percussion rifle (Rigby?) kit, many, many years ago.  They are cast about .090" thick and as you can see from the upper left, I would file them to a skinnier oval, drill countersink & fit. Then you better run a border around your checkering, (PITA!) to make them look right. (Checkering around a tightly curved forend is it's own PITA! better add about $1000 to the job for plates, wedge & checker!) Wedge casting I believe was from TOTW(?) about .100" thick and I would file the head to a miniture oval. Lot's of handwork, Hardly anybody noticed! I'll see if I can photograph the chisel used to inlet through the forend. Let me know if you alls have any luck getting some! Can barely see in this pic, but show clearly in my Custom Rifles book.

Here's the tools & the lugs (from Track):  Wedge inlet tool goes all the way throught the forend, side to side, all four cutting faces sharp (see lower drawing and clockwise) dovetailed brl lugs, 3 plate inlet chisels: tiny flat (curved face for walking around edge inlet), tiny angled (for stabbing in), dog-leg (for bottoming). For scale: lug chisel 5" overall, 2 1/2" blade. All bench made, and well used, 20+ years.

Here's a nicely done forearm escution and wedge on an original 1878 Borchardt Long Range Rifle. It gets a tad tricky though when checkering up to the edges of that border. It still looks nice even though there are a few small run overs. This particular rifle recently sold in the USA for $50,000,00 Harry

I have to get a raincoat for the keyboard. Those are some beautiful rifles and examples of fine craftsmanship in even the most trivial detail.

The paneled and engraved, factory DST, Borchardt above is by George Schoyen. Note the "chatter mark" matting on the barrel. Stocks are modern.
I also have rounds barrels by Pope (Jersey City) and by A W Peterson where the outside of the barrel is left with machining marks to create a non-reflective surface. Not nearly as elegant as proper matting, but shooters usually value function way above form!
