I do not know why we spend so much time here "learning" about old doubles when we could just ask a seller, like this one, for the facts and gems of wisdom he knows. http://www.auctionarms.com/search/displayitem.cfm?itemnum=8903718All my Lefevers, Foxes, Parkers, Smiths and even Ithacas have that shiney chrome lining. Do yours? Or is it worn out so that you can not see it anymore? New selling feature, %chrome left in double gun bores. Should be real easy to see and rate just behind %blue or case color left on the gun for a value determination.

Perhaps this seller could also teach us all how to take "quality" photos!!!

"any high grade is chrome lined or early guns are nickeled, look them up on grade of any made"

The "experts" are everywhere! At a gun show this past weekend I noticed a 12ga Parker D grade hammerless on a dealers table with what appeared to have some original case color but an obviously replaced stock of good quality however. I politely asked to pick up the gun and the dealer said I could "pick it up" if I had $9700! I said that was alot of money to merely pick up a DH 12 with a replaced stock and was it at least an ejector gun. He said it was a DHE and he had already had an offer from a dealer for that much so I couldn't pick it up. I thanked him and walked away. My thoughts we if the offer was legit he had better sell it ASAP and get it off his table! I just don't understand these guys...

Fergus, I've had similar experiences. There's really nothing to understand, other than anyone can rent table space, put a PHD after their name if they wish, and act like a total jerk anywhere, anytime. In this case, he was probably telling a lie to pump up his ego...at $9,700 he deserves to be the last owner. Bet if you see him at the next show, you'll see the same gun on his table. You were too polite in thanking him...but you made the right decision to walk away...I would have run!

Oooh Boy- about 6 years ago-wintertime Gun Show- a "dealer" had some pre-1964 Winchesters for sale- all of them with the electrical cable ties- I asked to look at a 20 gauge M50-he had the tie secured so you could NOT open the bolt- price was "iffy", so I asked him to remove the cable tie so I could further examine the bore, barrel etc. He said "Nope- can't do that-you'll just have to take my word that it is OK". I put the gun down and walked away-later found out he didn't see one gun that entire day- Gosh, I wonder why!! Old P.T. Bunkum and his "fool born every minute and two to take his money"--right stuff there!! RWTF
