Looking at a 16ga JP Sauer & Sohn 16 ga and can't tell what model it is.It has side clips and scroll engraving, on the bottom of the reciever is written Fotuna-Werk Mewa Suhl. The bottom of the barrel has several proof marks and guage and chamber length, the # 350, SN# 9532 It also has cocking indicaters non ejector. Any idea what model it could be and its value I am looking to buy it.
Thank you for any help.

The stamp "350" notes is was proved in March of 1950 with production, possibly of inhouse parts, beginning under dire straits:

"· 1945 Expropriation ordered by the Soviets, October 30, 1945 and confirmed, April 17, 1948.

· 1946 Hans Sauer died. 2103 employees.

· 1950 in DDR J.P. Sauer & Sohn are united to the MEWA-Suhl, who include Merkel, Gebr. Greifelt & Co, Ernst
Thälmann Werk and Fortuna-Werk (formerly C.G. Haenel). Rolf Sauer sold all the right for usage of the

brand name J.P. Sauer & Sohn to an Industrial Group in BRD.

· 1951 in BRD Reestablishment of the company J.P. Sauer & Sohn GmbH in Düsseldorf, later moved to Eckernförde

· 1960 in DDR VEB Fahrzeug- und Jagdwaffenwerk Ernst Thälman, Suhl still produce gun under the brand names
J.P. Sauer & Sohn, Suhl and Simson, Suhl, Haenel, Suhl and Gebrüder Merkel, Suhl.

· 1970 in DDR Simson, Merkel and Haenel were brought together and produced by Thälman. No more under the
brand name J.P. Sauer & Sohn. " from: http://web.comhem.se/~u24326782/history/html/historytext.htm .

Without a pic, I'll guess a model 28 or 34. Does it have a Greener crossbolt, flat-top, overhanging and intercepting scears, Krupp tubes?

Thanks PeteM for the effort in that the pics of the March 1950 Sauer shows the marks of the newly opened Suhl proofhouse, per the "15" over "DR" over "1" in an oval, as well as confirms that post WWII longarms were finished products of pre-WWII, or during, components during the 1945-1950 era. The Sauer has the "SuS" stamp as well as "Three Ring Krupp" tubes, probably Special Weapons Steel. The "M" over the "sole with imbedded axe" notes a material inspection prior to a preliminary black powder proof and the "N"(not for Normal just yet) over the same shield notes passing smokeless proof. It doesn't show any choke marks but I'm not sure what the choke stamp might have been but the proofhouse was supposed to still honor the 1939 rules. In 1950 the marks were changed back to a stylized Imperial Eagle. I think it to be a post WWII finished Model 8.

Kind Regards,
