In using the Skeet's gage, if I'm not mistaken he got .058 plus .700 for the ring. Shows me that gun is ready for Sherman Bell's next test.

On the barrel wall thickness, it does have a ball, but he only measured the barrels 9" from the breech and then measured somewhere near the muzzle, only 2 places and only 2 spots. Plus it looks like he placed the barrels on there and wasn't holding on to them.

I like the hanging one better.

Given Midway's prices, Potterhead could afford better. I missed the all-gauge biz on their site but if it'll fit in a 28, it ain't very stiff. Skeets bore mic is priced right (at least from Brownell). Get one of those or the set, make your own w/t gauge, and never have to look at another of those ComboWonderDoAlls that do nothing well.

jOe,
If you looked at the last video, those reamers were .763, .766, and .769. Talk about backboring, with the last reamer that is close to removing .015 a side. Definetly Sherman's next test.

In case anyone is interested the wall thickness gauge is priced for closeout.

I have noticed this gauge before. I have considered buying it instead of the Galazan one due to price difference. Can the Newboult and Thorp gauge be trusted? or, should I just shell out the 550.00 for the Galazan one?

I ordered one, I figure it will give me enough info to ease my mind when buying a gun. It may not be as good as the Galazan's but I have to think it will be close enough. From what I've read here technique is probably more important than the actual instrument.

I wish the makers of these tools would make a "12 gauge and larger" model with a real big shaft that is easier to keep straight. My Manson tool would be a lot easier to use if it had a big shaft.

I received this a few weeks ago, it works well enough though the rod does flex quite a bit. I was able to get consistent readings.

Having said that, I returned it. It arrived missing the collar stop ring and I have to say it's not an excellent example of British craftsmanship. It was sloppily put together and crudely painted, it looked more like a Chinese tool you'd get from Northern Supply. The dial gauge is a no-name tool.

I'll probably end up making my own, doesn't look hard.
