BSS boxlocks are all coil sprung.
I've had 4 and still have 3 of them, one I've had about 25 yrs. All are now 25yrs or older. None have ever had their hammersprings unloaded for storage with snapcaps or other methods. All are working fine. I suspect somewhere well over 95% of guns are stored with the hammers cocked.
Is it better to relieve the spring tension? Probably. I'll let you know if one of my BSS guns needs hammersprings when that time comes.
