I checked my 16ga sterlingworth, 30" barrels with skeets gauge
right= bore .659 choke .641
left= bore .660 choke .619
gun serial #366321
keep in mind that if a barrel didn't clean up at the desired bore diameter the factory just keep honing until it did within limits. From what I have seen Fox barrel bores usually are undersized.

Thanx for the numbers. I'll do a regression analysis and get R^2 values for each combination. Will post here if I cipher it out.

What I have always gone by is 16ga:
bore dia US....16.89mm or .6650in(min) & 17.40mm or .6850in (max)
Chokes:
.000 - .002 cylinder
.004 - .012 imp cylinder
.016 - .024 modified
.028 - .032 imp. mod.
.036 - .039 full
this has always been a good reference for me.

The only real test is shoot the gun on a pattern board, this is what Parker Bros did and I would guess the other quality makers did the same. I have a page in my note book that I used years ago, it has some interesting stuff, I will scan it and post it. Jim

Here is the page I mentioned above, I am not sure where the info came from, part was from a Chubb bore gauge I had at the time and some from other sources. It dates back to 60s or 70s. Jim

So if the chokes are .025 and .038 I can assume that they are originally tight-modified and tight-full assuming that the bores have not been opened creating tighter chokes. But could they equally be .015 and .025 and still be Mod. and Full per Foxes original boring? What I'm trying to find out is what is the allowable "range" that Fox might have used in a 16 gauge. Mark, based on the two 16ga Foxes from which I took measurements, I think it's safe for you to assume that your gun is an original M/F. I don't think Fox would have treated 015/025 as M/F on a 16, at least not from my measurements (and from those others like James have posted). And I agree with James that bore diameter on Fox 16's was quite a bit tighter than the usually accepted standard of somewhere in the 662-667 range.

NEWS FLASH
Computer worked all night analising all this data ad naseum results are in.
Computer says set up paper sheets at 40 yards and figure % of pellets in 30" circle, compare with 40% for cyliner 50 % for IC 60% mod and 70% full,..
Hey I think we arleady knew that.

From 16 bore DE Grade/ Bores both .660 with .005 and .015 chokes.
