I'm looking for some 2.5" Eley paper shot shells for upland bird hunting. I had been buying them from a firm in TX, but, it appears they're out of business. I live in NC, USA. Anyone have a good source for them? Thanks in advance.

I can suggest a competitor who turns out a high quality product:
http://www.polywad.com

They have a number of product lines, including several 2 1/2" shells, both standard and low pressure stuff for vintage guns. They are located in Macon, GA, freight to you should be reasonable.

Thanks for the quick response. I've used them and RST to good effect. I'm still yearning for some Eley Impax or Gran Prix'es. Anybody?

Best regards,

Kevin

Regarding effective distance, Gamebore Pure Gold F2s seem to fit the bill and can be acquired from: http://www.firearmservice.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/page19.html . If you are in the South, Polywad or Firearmservice will have them on your doorstep in about 2 days.

Kind Regards,

Raimey

I loved Eley Grand Prix, when I could get them. When I couldn't, switched to Gamebore Pure Gold, paper case, same 30 gram (1 1/16 oz) load of Brit 6's as the Eleys. So far, I haven't observed that the pheasants have noticed a difference.

Kevin:
I just sold two cases on GunBroker.16's .....after calling the UK and finding out from their sales manager, that they do not import to the NA market anymore.....she, the sales manager, said they were looking for a new dealer in this market, but had not been successful to date........she actually sounded like they were "really" not looking too hard........I had contacted them some two years back when the Austin, TX company quit handling Eley and they said the same thing, "looking".....I still have three cases (12's/16's/20's), but I think I will hold on to them.....

The rimfire ammunition is imported by Eley LTD....Eley LTD sold off the shotshell division to another company with the rights to still use the Eley name, They call themselves Eley Hawk, very confusing....but TWO different companies.

F.Y.I.: THE ELEY hulls are NOT worth much for reloading, paper or plastic....the brass easily tears during re-sizing....the case mouths usually burn out on the first firing.....Cheddite's are ten times as good...and you can buy the 2.5's almost anywhere new and primed and load them to your specifications....GRAFS.COM or Precisionreloading.com both stock them. For some reason Eley 16 cases are listed on the box as 65mm, then labeled on the shell itself as 67.5 mm...so in a 2 9/16" chamber like our old doubles (16's), the cases are actually a little long, especially if your chamber and forcing cones are original.....

Binko,
Yes. I didn't want to ship from the UK. That would cost more than the shells. What's your point?

Gents,

Thanks for all the leads. I guess Eleys are out for the moment.

Happy New Years to all.

Kevin,

I don't know the cost of shipping on the shells, and still don't, but I have ordered something off of eBay and I didn't remember the price being astronomical. As I do remember, it was about 3 times, [$6 went to $18], what it would be states side, but I really wanted the item, so I bit the bullet.

Sorry I wasn't of much help,

binko
