There is a rimmed version of the .222 in use in Australia. It's possible to make a short necked version by necking down the .357 Max. Also the .22 WCF is really just the first incarnation of the .22 Hornet for blackpowder introduced in the 1880s (I think). Just make yours in .22 Hornet, with a proper chamber, and stamp it .22WCF and you have your pre WW I varmit rifle.
