On the second photo you can see where the wood got "burned" near the top....wow.....what a butcher...!! He usually says "restored by Master Gunsmith Ed Flanders"...which is probably his nick name for his torch ?!?!

I don't mind you all beating up on a gun butcher but to get back to the original question, does anyone have any advice for me?

I prefer LC Smiths, of which there are many available with Damascus barrels...have quite a few LC'S (not damascus) and like them all, 12-16-20 etc. The quality of construction is exceptional in my opinion, the "swoopy" look of the LC's is what I really like.....the field grade is nice, but high end guns are out there as well, whatever trips your trigger ........GunBroker usually shows a good number of Smiths for sale. And, they are MADE IN THE U.S.A. I think Hunter Arms did buy most or all of their damascus barrels from the London makers..?

To me the LC out handles the rest, balance, point and so on...but just my opinion....there are some nice LC photos here on a post under 10 bore guys, also the LC Smith Collectors Association website.....a wealth of knowledge there about these guns...Happy New Year to all.

Sidekick,

I don't post here to much but the same thing happened to me 5 or so years back. In Damascus I now have a few Lefevers, Parkers and Ithacas. I like all of them quite a bit as each is unique in it's own sense. I reload black powder shells and also shoot low pressure rounds as well. The black powder is a blast and is not as bad from a cleaning standpoint as I was led to believe... Still though it is inconvenient as you have to clean right after shooting.

Per the above, I would say that my favorite for the field is my Lefever G or Parker GH but I also love my Ithacas!

I do notice that early shootable damascus parkers show up fairly often. the lifter actions seem to be a good deal when you can find them at a local shop.

Ed, others have been roundly criticized on this board for hawking their commercial wares, so don't feel like the Lone Ranger. Your reputation does precede you, though.

You are now in the kitchen. Expect heat.
