HA!!!! i have a CVA SXS . well it was a CVA now its not LOL
I built it , i own it and its alot of fun . not worth much but she is a grouse killer , hands down LOL
i wouldnt call myself a master gunsmith though i have been working and building them since i was a boy , lock stock and barrels .

why would someone put a torch to something like that ?
I did have a customer one time that took a torch to a set of barrels because someone told him that’s how to blue them . The things looked like a banana when he brought it in

now maybe someone her could correct me if im wrong but is not the coloring supposed to look complete not like someone put their Cigarette out on it ?

As to what I would do ? Well I would watch . If cartridges are what your after the know that you get what you pay for .
Just my thoughts

Kaposi's Sarcoma, the gun version, seen above on a hapless Sterlingworth.

You can freely admit on a double gun website that you did that to the above gun, ed1?

lest ye remove all doubt, indeed.

All of the guns I regularly shoot cept the Fulton, have Damascus barrels, All Lefevers. But, I think any good solid gun that feels good in YOUR hands, that YOu feel is affordable is one to be enjoyed. I dont shoot black powder, but may be a part time convert. Some guy from Texas was a guest at our place, shooting an "EE" Lefever with brass cartridges, loaded with black powder...They sure smelled good...

There is a gun show tomorrow. I'll have to do a little looking and see if there is anything interesting in between the piles of army surplus and samauri swords.

so far, most of what i am hearing is ignorance, arrogance and rudeness...hopefully, there are some gentlemen here?

In as gentlmanly way as possible I will say, I worked in the metal working trade for 35yrs. When these guns were originaly built they were given a "Uniform" carburization of the frame surface which upon quenching gave the mottled colors. To stick the hot tip[ of an accetalene torch to one & "Spot" color them is "ABSOLUTE TOTAL IGNORANCE" of metalurgy. The original hardening of the skin (case) is randomly destroyed. This is a crime that should be punishable by hanging by the neck until dead. That's about as Gentalmanly as I know how to say it. There are other ways of re-finishing case colors, which while in no way equal to the original, they do not destroy the hardness of the case & are completely removable if desired. This is the process of daubing with cold bluing at temps of around 160°F. This is lower than boiling water & in no way affects the original hardening of the frame. If you want to mess up guns for a few measly bucks at least learn to do it in a way that doesn't ruin the integrity of the original treatment to the gun.
