Honestly assess the type of shooting you're going to be doing. If it doesn't call for extreme range shots then I wouldn't hesitate to have the choke opened. If well done it doesn't hurt the value or utility of the gun one bit. And it usually makes the gun a whole lot more useful. I can't understand the paranoia about altering chokes--my goodness, I think the makers intended them to be opened to the users preference. The only instance when I hesitate to open chokes is with true collector grade shotguns I'll not be shooting much. Personally, I'd open the choke first and try that before I'd install thin wall chokes. Something like .010 and .020/.025 will cover about every conceivable shot. Enjoy the gun!
