Well then Ed, you are the perveyor of poor craftsmanship and are defending something you should not support. If you knew something of metal heat treating, you would not support the processes used to color your guns. A number of people here have a collective knowledge from the gun manufacturing and gunsmithing business that is pretty impressive. Others here have technical expertise in metal processing that give them the foundation to give you the critical information you've gotten. You have "Ed Landers", expert in your eyes and not many others.

ed1,
Thank you for your insight and comments. You may now leave the forum if you wish.
Ray St.Ledger is one of the World's finest exponents of colour case hardening. He is used by all the British 'Best' gun manufacturers and also the Italians and Spanish.
Doug Turnbull also produces fabulous work.
Both of these companies have spent years learning and perfecting their art and craft.
The knowledge is out there available to all, if we practice, research, and consult heat treatment literature and specialist companies.
Please do not, in your ignorance, insult our intelligence with your crass and inane protestations about 'your' gunsmith's amateur efforts at falsifying a finish on guns. You are devaluing these guns please stop.

Ed,
If you want to paint guns pink and set fire to them, far be it from me to stop you, or the fools that buy them. You've been given sound information. If you chose to ignore it, that's your choice to make. It is also the choice/freedom of members of this bbs to express their opinions on those guns and their seller and or the person that re-colored them.

Personally, I'm in favor of petitioning to not allow your re-colored guns to be advertised here now that you've been given the information as to why what has been done to these guns is a bad thing.

Somebody buy that N.I.D. with the colored top-lever and report to the group whether or not it is ruint by the heat. I know no-one here will buy the leopard spotted Fox, but the N.I.D. doesn't look that bad to me...Geo

By the way, I think I bid against ed-1 on Gun-Broker for that Ithaca before he fixed it up. It needed some help.

ED1:
I really think you and the "low temperature case colorer" are one and the same, however accepting your assertion for the moment, there's no reason you couldn't take a disbeliever or two from this forun to whomever is doing the case coloring work for a demonstration. That would certainly put this subject to bed for you.

jim: i doubt anything would put this subject to bed...besides why should ed lander or anybody else have to prove anything to any body, except perhaps to their paying customers? ed1
