The Hudson trade guns had what could look like folk art, it was meant to please for just that purpose, the fox, the snake and a few lines. It was factory made though, in England, at the very same time Holland and Holland and others were producing their ware - the two extremes in workmanship, heavy rococo-scroll on one side and plain function on the other is bewildering to consider.

An almost endless source of design inspiration might be found in military badges, navy ship pennants and railroad emblems.

Another personal touch might be created by looking up your family's coat of arms, or maybe the flag of your town or the town of your ancestors.

Me, a few years back, I spent days coming up with a monogram of mine. That's another idea - and, it fits the heavy rococo stuff.

As they say on Antiques Roadshow, the patina makes the piece. It has enough age on it to look right. Any newer or cleaner and it wouldn't pass the taste test. That trigger looks reshaped also.

Is it a true P14, M17 or Remington M30? What caliber?

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

Hi Recoil Rob

The rifle, whose pictures I posted, is a Remington made P-14, still in 303. I don't think the trigger was reshaped, but does
look different because the step was removed from the trigger guard.

More than likely the magazine box has also been shortened to hold one less cartridge, a common alteration with the P14s and 1917s, requiring the trigger to be shortened slightly. This alteration, along with straightening the TG/FP, was long considered SOP with most 1950s-60s sporterizers and I've also seen 1903 Springfield triggers used along with it, making for a much more attractive result IMO.
Regards, Joe

I have to admit that one could grown on you.......like a wart ............

Kind of interesting but the cheekpiece is a little over the top. But I'm sure you got a steal on it so that makes it even better.
