If you shoot that quick at such short distances, why in the world would you be looking at a gun with 30" barrels...unless you are planning to cut them too? I have done much woodcock hunting in Picayune, MS, and all the old pros over there use 24" and 26" cylinder bore 12's with #9 shot!

Actually, most of the roosters we actually shoot are taken at relativly short ranges, over pointing dogs. I did not say that open chokes would not be required, I said see what ya got before you start hacking on it. I am no stranger to grouse and woodcock shooting, having grown up in New Yawk and Pennsylvania. No need to get huffy.........Both Roosters I shot yesterday were taken at 16-20 yards..

Re; Binko & Last Dollar I did not mean to be huffy, however I do know which end the shot comes out. I would not modify any older gun until after using it a while. I would personally prefer 28" bbls. My Arrietta 28ga has 29" bbls which I find are more likely to keep me swinging on the bird. Two of my current SXS'S have choke tubes, two do not. I pefer not on a classic. I am not having a lot of luck finding a "perfect?" classic in really nice shape at a reasonable price. This one, with only internal choke opening seems like it might be "my gun",without compromising it's integrity. The price at Gunbroker is $1750. The price at Puglisi's site is $1495? But with your comments I guess it is not the gun for me. Mike B.

Re; Binko Here in Northern Wisconsin I find most of my birds in the thickest cut overs. Either you shoot quickly or take up another sport where there are no leaves involved. Mike B.

Re: treblig 1958 You are right. What do I need another gun for? It occurs to me (and my wife), way too often. She says I miss perfectly well with what I have. However at my age and health level it seems to my little voices, that I should have an American gun in every category. I am after all a country boy, "like Lowell?). Besides every man's needs are his and not someone elses. I hope everyone gets their ""needs" and "wants" fulfilled> Mike B.

May I suggest relatively rare made in Japan for Browning 'Sweet Sixteen' auto with invector choke system? Classic American design but better because it's made in Japan sort of like Honda. Less expensive and more versatile gun than that ole' Ithaca. PS. I just bought real ole' 25" #1330xx Winchester mod. 12 20ga plus case of Fiocchi mild low velocity (1075f/s) loads and it ain't bad at all. The stock design makes mounting and pointing easy plus five cartridges can be stuffed into the tube.
