If your gun has a doll's head rib extension, it is very similar to the 1914 W&S catalogue Figure #173. If it has a round third bolt in a rib extension, then similar to Figure #175. The engraving pattern is a little bit different, but still has many similarities. This gun is likely older as both catalogue Figures have steel barrels. All said, I'm pretty sure this is the base gun. It could have been sold in the white and finished up by Northcote (if he was a gunmaker) or simply bought in as a finished product. There are enough guns known to believe that he could have ordered in sufficient quantity to get some individual changes as to name and engraving.

I can find no record of any gunmaker in the U.K. trading under the name Northcote during the 1800,s In my opinion it is a ship,s gun. The ship in question being,The Steam Ship Northcote. The S.S. Northcote plied the Sask river in the 1870,s. The ship was a participant in The North West[Reil] rebelion in 1885. General Middleton Made use of the ship at the battle of Batoche May 9-12 1885. As such this gun could well be an important artifact related to this period of Canadian History. Recommend you contact the Province of Saskatchewan as they have archives related to the Reil rebelion that include pictures the S.S. Nortcote. The gun pictured is Typical of Birmingham guns made by several companies, circa 1870-1900.

Well thanks folk for the information. I would like to think my gun was fron the SS Northcote ship, but, that would make three such guns. It would certainly give it some history.
I will contact the Saskatchewan Province, I suppose the ship could have had a compliment of firearms for war or wilderness travel.
Thasnks again and good shooting.
