While in Vegas I heard some scuttle about members of the Parker Gun Collectors Assoc. retrieving Parker records, or similar, from someone's residence. Does anyone have any info on this ?

All old news. The records are all in place and available. $40 for PGCA members, $60 for non members. You letter will include whatever is available, including later modifications and added barrels etc. if pre 1919. The order books only go to 1919, later gun letters seldom mention the original purchaser, only the specifics of the gun.

Thanks, I guess third hand info makes somewhat innacurate stories.

As a cub reporter 60-plus years ago, I'd get widely different eyewitness accounts from those watching a five-alarm. So much for "You Were There."

The records are not all in place. As we Parker experts know, there are missing books and records.

It stands to reason those missing records could be in a landfill, propping up a corner of the CEO of Remington's desk, tucked away in the garage of some disgruntled former Remington employee, or in the gun safe of the Parker collector who has to have something no one else has.

I wonder what Larry DelGrego would say. Has anyone ever asked him?

There would have been a time...maybe 1955 or 1960 or 1970 when those records got little respect at Remington. It is very easy to imagine some guy a Remington - maybe an exec or maybe a clerk - getting asked to copy a record on a gun and having him tell the guy, "Oh hell, just take the whole book with ya".

For another example, I worked at Westinghouse in the late 80's and some dumb lady they hired to organize the record vault decided to toss out a bunch of 'those old smelly files'. A couple weeks later, long after the dumpster was gone, a few others found out and it came to light she had tossed out many historical records including original patent papers and other other documents penned by George Westinghouse himself.

I have heard that at least some of the missing books reside with the DelGrego's,but are unavailable for whatever reason for research by others.

There are a few such 'rumors' in circulation that keep popping up from time to time and other names are named as well.
