Hi everyone

I' have been collecting for a number of years, however I am just getting into the extremely difficult area of double guns and I hope you can help or direct me to somewhere to get my answers.

1. is there a reference book out there for values on double guns?

2. I have a couple of books by Nigel Brown, (good material)but no value

3. I have been pondering a couple of old guns but am trying to determine value, first is a Anderson double percussion, finely engraved backlock hammer gun with Damascus barrels, it is complete and in fine condition, i would grade it at 75% plus condition. Second is a Joseph Lang and Sons, double boxlock 12 gauge 2and 1/2 inch chambers, ejectors, wood is in excellent condition , metal bits including barrel would need to be reblued and the action is a little loose. any help in valueating these guns would be appreciated.

TigerT,

Welcome to the Board.

The knowledgeable will be along to help, but you can help them by posting with your queries a photo of the barrel flats and of the action flats, too. That will help determine age. All will tell you that you have to see a gun or rifle to estimate value, but most will put a range before you. (NOTE: The FAQ section of the board has how to post pix; it's complicated but not impossible...)

thanks Tim

all I am really looking for is a ballpark figure. I will be able to post the barrel flats of the Lang but not the other. From my books the Joseph Lang appears to be dated around 1924, serial number is 13,725.

again any help is appreciated.

Sean: Don't pay any attention to HoJo: Your Lang is nitro proved & appears to be in proof. If it has no major defects in the wood, action or bores I would value it at $1,000-$1,500, perhaps a little more since it is cased. The percussion double, probably from $700-$1,000, again depending on overall condition. I hope that this helps. The Lang is a London gun and, although not considered a "London Best" is at least in the second tier. The present company of Atkin, Grant & Lang could give you more info.

Best Regards, George Lander

Thanks guys......

the case is home made not from manufacture.....as stated earlier the action is slightly loose and barrels and bits need to be reblued, bores appear in good shape along with wood.

Are people from the great state of New Hampshire always that negative? Here we have an admitted newbie asking a legitimate question and all you guys seem to want to do is to dump on him & me. Buddy, if you can buy that Lang for $1,200 or less & if it's as you described it, I'd say jump on it if it fits you. As for my "bird dogging" for the auction, you guys missed some great buys. I bought 11 lots myself. Well, I guess we can't all be smart!!!

Just My Opinion......George
