A fellow I met at a local shop has a Gibbs-Farquharson rifle I'm thinking about buying and honestly I know nothing about them other than I think it would be fun to have. A few problems are: It's been re-barreled to 45-70, a very nice but not original barrel, the safety on the side is missing I assume it would be safety?, and the fore-end wood has been replaced. He shoots it and is selling to finance other projects price is $500. A few things I'm wondering are. Parts? I would like to get a safety so it would be complete are they available? Any History/information such as books or web sites that would give info?. And lastley price sound O.K.?
I realize without seeing it and without a model or other info it is asking a lot but a vintage single shot of this type seems would be a fun thing without worrying about collector value. Any ideas where I might start? I'll do some digging and see what I can turn up. Thank you
