I have been following this thread eagerly waiting for a reply from someone with an answer about who they would recommend to send their blank to, to have a stock. duplicated.
My 1902 Sauer 16 ga sidelock hammergun's butt stock broke at the wrist on the first shot this year, and I want to have a replacement turned. I will complete the inletting and finishing, and have someone capable do the checkering. I know my limitations, and they stop at the finish.

I also am in need of this service as the shotgun I just bought is broken at the wrist as well.

As with most things in life, there is no free lunch regarding gunstock duplication. Some very good advice from KY. As of now, the acknowledged best machine is the Hoenig. That said, as Dennis pointed out so well, a poor operator can mess up a nice stick of wood on even the best machine.

I personally know D'Arcy Echols to be amoung the best operators with a Hoenig. He charges about $500 for two-piece semi-inletted blank right off the machine, and in my experience, you get what you pay for.

The problem then becomes one of finding someone reputable to finish the job and that's where the real money comes in.

Best,

C.

I have had a great deal of experience using our own Mr. Doug Mann with the best results ! At the moment he is doing a lowall stock set for me. You need to shop around of course but best price doesn't always get you the best finished product. Also, all good stockmakers will be backordered. Good luck......

If you want some one to machine carve the blank, I used both of these. Final fitting will be up to you.

Thank you Ken H. and Pete M. The old Sauer is my favorite piece. The barrels are great, and the action is tight. She won't be worth what I will have in her, but I'll pass her on to someone that appreciates her, before I move on.
What should I pay to have a sidelock stock duplicated with the inletting .005 under sized?
