EightBore is right- and old bit of Chinese wisdom- if you want to find the true value of an item, have three different and unrelated "experts" look at it- BUT they must have NO interest in buying it. And he is also right about shipping- always a hazard. That's why my two 12 bore older Parkers went to Mr. DelGrego for appraisal/overhaul/cleaning/whatever by extremely honest and trusted close friend courier. A true horror story- Friend sent a high Grade Uncle Dan LeFever out to Frank LeFever and sons in Upstate NY some years ago-insured UPS- somehow it "disappeared" in the "system" and it took him almost 2 years and the lawyers to get a settlement.
Problem is- UPS is not owned by gun collectors- they work on the "bottom line" profit per package basis- how do you "prove" value for something made possibly in 1900-Tough call.
Mr. Mitchell's idea sounds like a winner- I'll be in the general area for a reunion (Ft. Bragg) and may stop down. I just acquired an older Grade 3E Smith with Damascus barrels and will bring that to shoot- Looks to be choked full and fuller-any spreader BP loads out there??
