Very nice indeed- What about the so-called Hamburg cartridge? Which case length was so named, and was it the one named with the rifle? Between Donaldson's writing and Simmons' "Wildcats" the seems to be some confusion.Good shooting.
Dr. Mann had 200 long 30-40 cases made at Frankfort Arsenal these were headstamped "F.A.1-12". They were necked to .25 caliber and the finished length was about 2.750". This is what the first rifle was chambered for. When out shooting woodchucks Niedner shot one and brought it back using both hands to hold it Dr. Baker said that is some Hamburger making rifle, the name stuck.
This rifle was later rechambered to the regular 25-Niedner-Krag.
The two cutaway chambers are both made for the long hamburg cartridge and one of the original cartridges with a base-band bullet is in the chamber.
