In the original post by Greg, I did explain using the .700 ring for 12 ga. and setting to zero. Insert in barrel and read dial, if double do other barrel, they could be different bore and usually are by a few thousands. I stated that the readings would be between .725-.732.(I have a few "elsies" that have .723 bore) and that the dial would read +.025-.032.
Why not reset dial once it is in barrel, you already know what bore is so why get confused with the dial going from plus to minus coming out and having to figure out what the reading is.
To me much easier to read.

Mine won't read 16 ga. the head alone is .624, and the bores on my "elsies" are .650.
