If you use tru oil for finishing, I saw a piece of advise on Pete Hyatt's site. Smear it thick, let it dry a little then wipe it off. May take a couple of applications in the same way. Also you can wet sand it with the oil on, pushing the "mud" into the pores, let it dry then reapply.
I am trying the first method myself as we speak.
I also heard about using shellac to fill in the pores.
One of my neighbors uses very thin layers of tru oil applied 30-40 times. He occasionally cuts it back by sanding it lightly.
