I have a Baker 12 gauge Batavia Special double barrel with tensil steel barrels. The gun is old and worn with most if not all of the blueing worn off. Has NO rust and everything works as it should. It has a serial number of 1557**...Just wondering if anyone knows when it was made and maybe what the worth would or could be???It is a good shooting gun and I like the looks of it with a little scrolling on the trigger guard and the way the design is laid in between the barrels..Any help would be appreciated...Thanks

The Batavia Special was made from 1906 to 1916. Yours is toward the high end of the serial number range 75000 to 161000.

The Batavia Special , with Homotensile barrels, was made from roughly 1907-1911. Your gun was probably made around 1908. Value around $500 depending on overall condition.

I don't make this stuff up. I took my answer from the Baker production table at the end in the article on Bakers by Don Hardin and Daryl Hallquist in the 1997 Guns Illustrated.

While there is attention on the Baker, what about a Baker Batavia Leader #10080F. 1930's?

Builder,

The F indicates it was made after the H&D Folsom take over of Baker Gun Co. so between 1919 to about 1929. The Baker Gun & Forging Co. dropped the various Batavias --Special - Leader - Damascus - Ejector-- before WW-I and replaced them with the Black Beauty and Black Beauty Special. Folsom revived the Batavia Leader, but with steel barrels, while the BG&FCo. Batavia Leader had Twist barrels.

Thanks Researcher. I had a 22xxF 20 gauge so they might have started again at 0001F or 1000F.
