I would ask a custom stock man, maybe our Steven Dodd Hughes, but for accra-glassing a rifle today, they use an aluminun channel- wood will always have some moisture content, aluminum would be impervious to trapped oils or other residues in your older stock. Would use of a improvised bushing in the tang bolt through hole also help, as if this hole is somewhat oversized, recoil might affect the tang bolt and cause further wear and "out of round" in a critical bearing area.
