I have located a beautiful 1894 Remmie 16 bore double with damascus barrels. The thinnest point is about 16 inches from the breech, measuring about .025 in the left barrel. Right barrel is ok at .034. would this be an ok gun for hunting with light loads at about 8400psi 7/8 to 1 0z?
I forgot to say no pitting in either bore.

I don't believe anyone is going to tell you over the internet that a particular gun is or isn't safe to shoot. That can only be done by a handful of qualified gunsmiths with the gun in hand.

For my own use, I consider .025 to be the minimum in Damascus barrels, all other condition matters being OK. I don't shoot 8400psi loads in any of my damascus guns, but stick to "vintager" pressures closer to 5000psi...Geo

Am in total agreement with Researcher, no one can say a gun is safe without a hands on approach. However a point to keep in mind is as long as total balistics are the same IE shot wt & velocity, the load showing the highest max pressure will have the "Lowest" presure at the point 16" down bbl. Many people seem to get totally hung up on max pressure & ignore the fact there is a "Pressure Curve" existing for the entire bbl length. Note also though, that the change down the rest of the bbl will be only a small fraction of the change in chamber pressure as it is spread out over a much longer length.
PS; you mentioned the use for this gun would be for "Hunting". Personally I "Never" load to pressures unde 7,000-7,500 psi for a hunting load. There is simply "In My Opinion" too much danger of an extremely low pressured load leaving a charge in the bore from incomplete combustion under some cold conditions. One may get away with it for years, but it only takes once under some exciting condition, where the shot was simply regarded as a "Miss" to totally destroy a bbl.
"If" the gun checks out by someone knowledgable as being safe to use, the mentioned loads would seem to be appropriate ones. Hope this helps some in your decision.

425, I'd probably go lower than 8400 as well. Possible with a 16, but not as easy as it would be with a 12. The 16ga reloading group can come up with some recipes, I'm sure. I had Tom Armbrust test one load for me that came out right around 7,000 psi at 1150 fps, 7/8 oz shot, but that's unusually low pressure for the 16.
