Ken, I don't know much about bolt rifles, but these look mighty fine to me. The one in the third photo particularly. I also like the lay out of the engraving on the patch box well I ammo box or whatever they call those new fangled things. Do you have any more close ups of that?

The pictures of the bolt guns were taken by Tom Alexandra of Flagstaff, Az. The metalwork and stocking were done by Mr. Dave Norin and the engraving by me. Dave said the client wanted a light/simple/understated pattern in English scroll --- soooo, what you see is what he got.
The lowall was complete;y filed & hand polished out by our Glenn Fewless of Waterford , Wis. until it far out paced what the Win. custom shop ever did! He also turned an oct. bbl to rd. with a small wedding band at the end of the oct. Following that, Glenn fitted the bbl to the action before turning it over to our own Doug Mann.
Doug (St. Anne, Il.)carefully hand fitted this piece of fiddleback American walnut (from Quaking Aspens) with gabon ebony tip . He also delicately painted all the inletting with a thin coat of accraglass to eliminate oil migration & to insure a perfect fit but not from poor inletting. The inletting is as close as you can get by lightly scraping in. Doug is going to add a light red stain (thanks SDH) to the stocks to give a little more color. The stock has one sealer coat to keep it clean. By now I'm sure it has had a few sanding sealer coats added. This is going to take a while as Mr. Doug is one to make sure this and following coats are more than dry enough before proceeding. When the final finish coat is applied and allowed to dry a few weeks, Doug will begin the checkering. Can't tell you anything about the pattern but am confident yhe pattern will be a killer ! More to come as the stock develops.
Once this baby comes home, I'll have to find the time to engrave a bulinoed hawk on one side and a peregrin on the other side. They will both be in motion --- the hawk will have set his air breaks and has both talons reaching out to grab something --- the Peregrin will be in a diving position. Coverage on the gun will be approx. 1/2 to 3/4 coverage. frame will be color cased. Color will be removed from frame and turn to french grey. Lever and breechblock will retain the CC colors for contrast. All for now..........
PS ---- no Brent, no closeups, sorry. However, many thanks for posting for me. One of these days I'll learn how.

I love all of them! Even those two with the funny looking round ball handles on the right side!

Great examples of 98 custom's. What calibre is each rifle? Also like to know some details on the stocks...who's pattern? stock finish? LOP? and length of forend beyond the receiver? Greatly appreciate any info on these classics.
