I've never found rails to be that tough to hit oddly enough. They get up pretty slowly and don't flush at any great distance. I've only ever had one right and left on them. They're like woodcock, you don't see two in the air at once very often. Though another guy I know shoots them in Georgia and has had several doubles so I guess it just depends on the day. I was shooting the old family Stevens 311 on that trip. It's cylinder and cylinder, perfect for railbirds as 30 yards is a long shot. I think we only lost one bird in two days gunning and that was a swimming cripple, Gregory has been pushing since he was a kid and can find them everytime.

Grandpa does look young for his age, I will agree. He's still got some dark in his hair if you can believe it. We were born on the same day, June 10th. There's no telling how many doves and quail that little JC Higgins has killed. Dad bought the stock as a blank with only the head semi-inletted from Herter's back in the 60's. It originally had a tenite buttstock on it, still has the forend.
