Obviously uninformed! For someone who doesn't understand what your looking at, should ask questions first and not assume anything!

I think whoever, got a good buy.

I had hoped to win the gun but others, who shall go nameless, had not respected my desires and chose to place bids. I sometimes don't know what this world has come to.

And an added feature is the Cazenovia address. Cazenovia is a charming little town in the beautiful Finger lake section of New York. Now I am starting to talk myself into feeling sad for not bidding on this treasure! Let's change the subject. Anyone here have Jerry Swinney's 5 book set "The New York State Firearms Trade"? Swinney shows a Joseph Livingston gun on page 1007 with some bio. info on him. A great resource IMO.

Well guys, I've always been one ready to admit when I was wrong and I guess I was wrong on this one and very ignorant. I now think it should have brought a lot more after hearing all the opinions. I am now wondering why some of you didn't get in there and try to get this good deal for yourself, and not leave it being such a good deal for someone else???

I was going to bid but then I found out others were also interested in owning the gun so out of respect for their wishes I refrained from bidding. I didn't want to create a wrinkle in the fabric of the used gun market.

Justin,

It is in the link to the Lefever site. I will repeat it here:

He did not join Uncle Dan in the new LeFever Arms Co., but opened his own business, but was at the same address as John Nichols. Livingston moved to Cazenovia (not far from Syracuse) in 1882. He advertised himself as a gunmaker and repairer. His guns were clearly made from Nichols and LeFever parts.

Patents he held:

Besides Nichols & Lefever he also worked for circa 1882 Will Cruttenden & prior to 1876 Parker Bros. Then as DrBob states, he opened his own shop.

He is an American gunmaker who has not been well documented and researched. It would be interesting to compare a Nichols & Lefever to this one. If complete pictures of the lock internals, etc were available.

This is a Barber & Lefever 14ga.

This is a Nichols & Lefever 10ga

Hopefully, some one will be able to add to this information.

Pete

Yep......and it beat out any junker you got! It's no different than any of the junk Brit guns that they are exporting. You ever wonder why they export them to US? They know they can rid them to hams like you!

I don't own any junk guns...

Don't you figure Mr. Lefever would be proud to see one of his ol'war horses hanging in Cracker Barrel ?
