FWIW dept ------ You can get a great color case hardening from "Classic Guns Inc" for $50. less (that's $200.) and usually dwl. within five work days of receipt. Have used them for 8-9 years without ever having a problem & send many pieces to them in an average year.

pb, it gives me a great deal of pleasure to see such craftsmanship grew from my writing! I'm sure your Fox has, and will continue to give you great pleasure as well.

Ken- What have you got against Doug Turnbull? How could anyone be disappointed with those colors?

Mike an intriguing idea, I'm wondering how many pink slips you won or lost in those hot rod days. My older brother had a '46 Ford coupe with a flathead V-8 set-up for 1/8th mile street racing and always talked "pink slips" but I never saw him with more than one, or none at all.
You got a custom Fox to put up?

With the best of intensions,
Steve

Steve,

I would have forfeited the registration to a '67 Firebird with an anemic 2bbl 326. Luckily, I wasn't completely sober and my buddies convinced me we were no match for the girl in the '67 Rally Sport. My custom Foxes are all Sterlingworths in pretty prom dresses. I like to refer them as my "X" upgrade projects that haven't been engraved yet.

Mike, sounds like my Becker project. I may get stalled out about engraving time. It may be a recreation of an "Early A".

Steve, I'm "NOT" (sorry for the missing word --- edited same) against Turnbulls BUT, I have used them in past years and on occasion have found the colors far off from what they should have been --- not even close. Classic Guns Inc have never dissapointed me or my clients & are faster on del. & $50. less espensive in this case. If the work is equal and I can get almost overnight del. & save money, why pay extra for the same thing ? Also, John Gillette will alter the CC mix to suit the client & the look he desires at no extra charge ---- no extra charge for the baked on lac. coating either. Best regards ....

Mike, Don't know if I'd put my Fox's pink slip-up against yours, you are probably a much better shot than I am. But it would be fun to get a bunch of custom Fox's together for a shoot, eh? (BTW, My Bro's '46 Ford screamed, up to about 80 mph.)

Ken, Have you ever talked with Doug about what you wanted? Doug Turnbull has answered every request I've ever made (harder, no so hard, different color shading, etc.) never an extra charge. I've had 10 day door-to-door turn-around from Montana, which can't be beat; does the nicest gray I've seen. Doesn't use baking laquer which I hate, violin varnish at no extra charge, or none if you prefer. And I'm not against anyone else.

And, most important, Doug Turnbull has unarguably the greatest experience bone charcoal color case hardening of Anyone in this country. All added, easily worth $50 in my opinion and experience for more than 20 years.

Hi Steve ---- please note that I let my fingers get away with their work before my brain was fully engaged. I was contacted about this mistake & I corrected the statement in original post. I'm Not against Turnbulls at all. John Gillette was doing CC before Bill Ruger came out with the #1 rifle & studied with Oscar G. --- that's part of the reason I use his services.

Steve,

It's a long way from Montana, but the biggest assemblage of shooting Foxes of the century will happen in about 2 months. The venue is becoming something of a home grounds for Fox owners, situated as it is fairly central to the Fox Collectors Assn., most of whose officers hail from the northeast. This could well be the biggest gathering ever of real Super Foxes and other long range Foxes as enthusiasts get together to vie for the Bo-Whoop trophy. All of the shooting, even the Bo-Whoop Challenge,is open to all makes and gauges of SxS's, but the Bo-Whoop trophy can only be won with a Fox. Maybe you'd consider attending someday. I, for one, would love the chance to examine your famous Fox up close.
