gun be considered a high quality English boxlock that could be used daily Upland hunting and still retain or increase its value many years down the road? Blue book says only 40 were made between 1966-1968 for the American market.Does it seem high priced compared to the Parker Repro 28 bore? Would you consider the English made 28 bore a better quality made gun than the Parker Repro 28? Anyone have any experience with the Webley & Scott 28? All your feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

The gun is basically a 28 bore Webley 700.

The 700 was Webley's biggest selling model and it is a decent, nice-handling gun, though I have to say i am not usually impressed by the examples they were making towards the end of their existence.

I have a 700 i 12-bore and it is anice gun to use and not overly expensive - certainly not a 'best' gun but a god one for everyday use.

Starting with the fact that the Blue Book says $3000, in 100% condition, I'd say he's way overpriced. He calls it a sidelock. It's not. I would much prefer a Parker Repro 28, for every reason imaginable, starting with looks. JL

I bought the exact same gun from Cabela's a year ago for $3,500 in similar high condition. It's a nice gun but not $6,500.

Agree with JBG. It's a nice BLE in good shape that is worth $3,500.00 tops,in my humble opinion. 700s were good reliable guns, as were the BSA SxS. I wish I still had my old wildfowler heavy frame BSA with 3" chambers, great out on the mudflats of Essex, England

Seller trolling for a sucker at that price. You could almost buy two high condition Parker Repros for that much money. Shoot one, keep the other for resale and you will be ahead of this purchase. In ten years the Parker repros might be worth twice what they are now even if one is well used. I doubt that the 728 would be, if shot for ten years and then sold. Guns make nice toys but lousy investments.

Webley 700's are very nice guns, good solid boxlocks with very good handling dynamics. While 12 ga versions are predominant out there the sub gauages demand a nice premium. 12's will bring between 1500.00 3000.00 depending on condition while 20's 3500.00 - 5500.00 once again depending on condition and details such as stock config, engraving and barrel length. The 28's even more of a premium because of their scarcity. All the 28's are 25 or 26 in. barrels which is too bad because finding a sweet swinging one with short barrels is problematic yet some do.

I would much rather own a Webley over a Parker Repro just because they are well made , will last and most have great handling qualities which cannot always be said for the repros.

On the other hand I would not plunk down 6500.00 with 25 in. barrels and a short stock.

The real Webley treasures out there are the 28 in barrled 20 gauges

Brian,

My 728 is a single trigger and quite frankly I have no idea what the choke is. But, I can tell you this, I shoot it MUCH BETTER than my Parker Reproduction 28 gauge. I do not know why, but it is true. The single trigger has not had any malfunctions as of yet, nor have I heard of any problems regarding it. As to value, you would have to ask others more versed in the subject than I. Toys are toys and if you really want it, my experience has been, most will find a way to acquire it. It seems most people find $$$ for their wants easier than for their needs these days!
