Being a DB shotgun fella I need some help on a rifle I purchased at an estate auction. I know it is old and after going through all my ammo I went to the gun shop and went through theirs. It appears to be a .375 cal. It is bolt action and the only name on it is Dortmund. The only number on it is 650. It has scroll engraving on both sides of the receiver and the wood is beautiful and has what looks like flowers carved in it. Overall the gun is in about 85-90% condition. Any info on the gun and the value would be greatly appreciated.

A DB shotgun of about 375 cal is probably for the 9mm shotgun round, more common in Europe than here but still familiar to some of us old-timers. I used to see Fiocchi advertising them I believe.

More information and as they said "Pictures". I suspect Dortmund might be the town and not the maker. Dortmund is a town in Germany. Have you have the rifle out of the stock? If so please post ALL the marking you find.

I only type with two fingers and you want me to send pictures!! Sorry, but I don't know how. The gun is in such great shape I have not tried to take off the stock, don't want to mess it up. If I take the stock off are there supposed to be proof marks or something else that may help identify the gun??

Ernie, If your not comfortable removing the stock then don't, you can't do any damage that way  If you can send some pictures to me at mjpetrov@acsalaska.net I'll post them for you.

9mm puts it into the Flobert class. 9mm was a very popular rimfire on the continent. Fiocchi still makes the ammunition. The rifles were commonly called parlour guns, as they were often shot indoors. In England they were more likely to be called a garden gun.  The round was also used as means of self-protection for both ladies and gentlemen.  I do not have any information on Dortmund and suspect that Michael is correct. Pete
