That's the most interesting Lefever mystery I've seen in a long time. My (often fallible) instinct tells me there's no way that gun's "factory," but who cares? I tend to be a "don't screw with nice old guns" kind of guy, but this one is very cool, IMHO. I'm not a good judge of case colors, but the rest of the gun looks to be a professional job, and I bet it's also accurate (once you find your recipe). My guess is someone with more dollars than sense took an E Grade scattergun and turned it into a double rifle, choosing an age-appropriate cartridge while they were at it. The plan was to have the sweetest rifle on the elk hunt, but by the looks of it, he and the gun never made the trip. TT
