I wouldn't have either, unless they were a gift. If they were given to me I'd sell them off asap. Then put the money raised into buying good quality single shot rifles that I could shoot.

Lets be honest, they are exhibition pieces that deserve to be in a museum, and displayed as a tribute to the artists in metal and wood who worked on them. They aren't shooting rifles and probably were never intended to be.

I don't mind a little discrete metal scratching and some neat checkering, but fancy wood carving and 32 lpi checkering simply isn't practical on any rifle used for hunting or on the target range. If you don't own a rifle for one or both of the reasons mentioned in the last sentence what the heck do you want a rifle for?

Harry.

Harry, These guns where not meant to be practical for hunt or range. Sometimes things are made as art. Of course, not everybody likes all art.

With all apologies to grogel who knows and love 99's as does my good friend kurt.

This rifle proves that the singular look of the Savage Model 1899 simply cannot be improved upon.

I just reread Harry's post and realized I didnt say anything in my post that wasnt said by Harry.

If I had read it all in the first place, I would have mostly agreed with him and backed away from the keyboard.

Some people are so uptight when it comes to guns they like
