Almost a little over the top. Coming up for local auction and I'm sure I'll keep my hands in my pocket at an extimated $200-$250K. There's also another of his in purportedly unfired condition; a Model 1886 takedown est. at $400-$500K. I'm wondering who did the engraving and stock. Delete if this violates rules.

Engraving looks like Wm. Gough, especially the scroll. OK, one more rifle to add to the must have list. Is that a flip up open rear site on the very end of the barrel rib right at the rec'vr junction?

way, Way, WAY!!!! over the top in my book. Never mind the price.
Don't think I could ever grow into those two rifles. Esp. the 99

that's too bad because the '99 is among the best repeating sporting rifles ever designed. the other two are mannlicher-schoenauer and the original oberndorf mauser sporter. hardly surprising as the man largely resposible for it's force in development and manufacture came from affluent jamacan plantation owning family.

Jagermeister, I have nothing against a generic 99. I once tried to buy one when I was in my "modern gun" phase. I'd prefer an 86, but a 99 would do. Just not THAT 99.

The Model 99 is one of the very best, but if I had to pick between the two, I would pick the Model 1886 because the engraving and wood carving/checkering is much more tasteful and elegant. This 99 is extremely well done, but the leopards on the left side and the extreme German style wood carving and stock shape are a turn off to me.
