Looking at an old 10 ga English Hammer gun with damascus barrels. Will someone please tell me what are minimal wall thicknesses and where should the wall thickness be measured?

I don't know the numbers that you need. Someone else will have to provide them, but I take the opportunity to show off what you can do with your's if it is shootable.

Nice BrentD. What is it? Looks to be pretty old from the fences and the FE wedge....and in very nice shape.  Jay, there was a thread not too far back that actually had about the best quoted references in one spot that I have seen on this board. Think it was by "SAAD", topic "barrel burst"? While the topic was a 12ga and as per some much smarter folks than I the 10 would need thicker walls for a like pressure, think it would put you in the ballpark of being able to err on the side of caution.......barrel condition dependant, of course. It is a Scott and Sons. I think it is from the 1880s but could be wrong. It has a well fractured buttstock but I repaired it so that it looks and works very well - at least to me.
I never measured wall thickness, but it is a pretty heavy gun, so I'm sure it's quite safe.
The turkey may have disagreed.

I hate to say it but the more I look at these old guns the less appealing I find new ones. I have gone completely around the bend when it comes to damascus barrels. Given the choice between shooting a gobbler or ring neck with a plastic anto-jammer with a camo stock or a 120+ year old hammer gun, can you honestly say that you would not chose the hammer gun? We don't have to feed our families with the game we take so why not make it as fun as possible. Am I nuts?

Yah Jay you can go a little nuts!  Give yourself to the black powder side of the force! Belgium 36 gauge sxs youth gun, made in 18??  The gun above after I treated it with steroids!  (Actually my 9 gauge Manton) Seriously, one of the other members talked about the ghosts of previous owners that seem to inhabit these old guns, but whatever I find something very satisfying in putting these old guns back to work. Jay you need to know the thickness of the whole barrel. The minimum depends upon where you are talking about. .020 at the muzzle is no problem, except its easier to dent, but .020 3 inches in front of the chamber is a different thing. Ask to have the barrels mapped for thickness.
