The thread Stan started on gun pics started me playing with this new flash I bought. The cord links it to the camera's control so it can be pointed, bounced, etc. off things to softend or change the light to get an endless variation of lighting effects. The equipment Natural light from a window to the left. Camera onboard flash Direct flash from right, no camera mounted flash. Ceiling bounce, no camera mounted flash.

This was my trade for some years, although I never did a lot of product work. Those little bounce units are great. You can also use a large sheet of white polystyrene (of the packing variety)to bounce in extra light on a bright overcast day . Nice hat

Greg, the hat's about retired. Still some life in it, but I have a bunch of others. But, maybe a recase, reblue and some true-oil and she'd be pretty nice. eh?
All the pics except the labeled "natural light..." are with a flash. I just wanted to play a bit and see what I could get. This flash and camera impress the heck out of me. I've only had it for a few months now and really haven't used it that much. And, I haven't done much if any 'technical' photography in a long, long time and this was a learning little bout for me and shows that a modern setup can produce "flat light" with a flash or sharp lighting. Oh and only the walls and ceiling were used to bounce the light.

Since a remote flash is probably as rare as a 28ga LC in most of this crowd, I figured I'd see if I could get some good results in softening/flattening the lighting with an onboard flash on a point-n-shoot type of camera. The camera is a few yrs old Konica-Minolta Z-2 model with an auto flash setting. The flash setting was left in the auto mode for all the pics. The camera. Direct flash. All surfaces angled to prevent reflections. Borrow your wife's compact mirror or the little one she uses to tweeze her eyebrow. I angled it up and to the left and used the ceiling/wall to bounce the light. Similar angle of the mirror but a little different angle of the gun in relation to the camera. I took over a dozen pics and just picked out the ones that turned out well. A little experimenting and I think you'll have good results.

Chuck, this is one of the coolest threads I've ever seen! Great info for us photo-challenged, too!
Nice gun!

Chuck,
I think you should get rid of all the guns and go into photography full time. You can send them to the address on my card that I gave you. Thanks for the lesson this is great information.

The one-rail from right models 3-D very nicely. Painting with light.

Don't forget to pay your models or they might get up and walk away like this one. There was a thread on jackets/coats/capes a while back and remember Filson's came up. I wouldn't put a Filson at the top of my list for being able to raise a gun on a hightailing quail. It was 70 F in this pic and it was stiff enough to stand on it's own.
