Friends:

Whatever you collecting interest, I suggest you take a moment to look at this 12g , Joseph Loy engraved gun. Beautiful, striking, magnificent are words that come to mind as descriptors.

$27,000 as a Reserve cuts me out of the running, but it is indeed nice to look at.

For you folks who have difficulty telling the difference between real case colors and the "torch-colors" from some nameless so-called "master gunsmith", here is chance to see.

Happy Looking.

Regards

GKT

Such a beautiful gun - most people don't put Ithaca up there with Fox , Parker , and the other ones . Someday if I ever get the extra money I'm going to buy a 4 or 5E trap gun . Thanks for the post - Paul

Greg:

After looking at this gentleman's extensive Ithaca offerings at GB over the past two or three months, I am convinced that "Glenview" must have no trouble holding his head up among his fellow collectors and yet these guns are not moving. Could it be that GB is being used as a cheap get out the news shop window in preparation for further goings on in the fabled "smoke-filled library" or are these guns priced in the stratosphere and thus predestined to remain with the current holder? On the surface, there would seem to be a genuine intention to liquidate as there are a couple of lesser guns (AyA no. 2) among the "seller's other items". Do the reserves point to a failed test of market depth or are they public invitations to a private parley?

Not unheard of to have a seller list with a very high reserve and dicker over price off auction. Uses the "auction" as an ad board and get massive exposure for no great investment.

You have to decide if this is what he is doing. Easy way to find out. Drop him an email about one of the guns. Return his reply and then use the phone to call him. Make an offer and see if he makes a counter offer.

I try to stay away from these type of transactions as you have no protection from possible fraud. You are off board and the Auction copmpany will make no attempt to help you if you loose money. Not that they really do anyways.

If you are going to drop more than $5,000.00 on a gun, from any non-dealer, you are better off to go see the gun in person. Better to spend a few hundred on a plane ticket than buy a gun sight unseen, based solely on the sellers description and a few digital photos. And we all know that digital photos are very easy to enhance and no seller ever missed any warts in their descriptions.

Not a player in that league but have my suspicions when these "award winners" appear to be trundled out for the hoi poloi (namely me).

If your instrested in the gun send him an e-mail and he will respond with a phone number if you request it. I have dealt with him in the past without any problems.

Actually the reserve prices he has set on several of the guns don't look that unreasonable at all for what they are and like someone stated they don't seem to be moving. I am sure most of us have somewhat the same idea when it comes to our guns, better to invest in something we can appreciate and use for years but all the time hoping that when the day comes to sell there will be a reasonable market for our collection. The quality of the guns this person is offering looks to me to be very fairly represented by him, so where are all the buyers?

Although that buttplate is still in doubt, the gun is a truly fine piece. Love to be able to pull that one out of my safe when one of you come by. But, my piggy bank has quarters in it, not 10 dollar gold coins.
