A young friend of mine has an opportunity to purchase a Fox model B from Savage Arms, the price at $650. Gun is in very good condition. He wants it for a field shooter and asked if it was worth the price. I don't feel qualified to answer. Any of you guys able to give him some advice on this purchase? Thanks, Will

Sounds a little on the high side unless it's a 20 gauge and in almost new condition. Tell him to surf the net and get an idea. These are basically a Stevens 311 gussied up. Not a bad first double though.

I agree; got an early 60's Model B 12ga with real walnut and cut checekering in what I would call 85-90% condition for right around $300. That was a couple years back, but I don't think they've gone up that much. Guns America has a couple 12's at $450 +/-, but I do see they've got several 20's at $600-$900!!

The price is on the high side for a 12ga B. For $650 with a little careful shopping he can pick up a 12ga Sterlingworth shooter. To get some idea of what is available in the price range, go to Gunbroker http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Browse.asp?cat=3104 and sort by price. Keep clicking on the bottom page numbers until you find the price you are looking for. For $650 your friend can pick up a much nicer gun with better resale value.
