Sort of local dealer has a Browning Express Double Rifle in .270 with a Zeiss Davari scope mounted (aftermarket scope bases). Photo here: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=127659045.I've seen it and it's in very nice shape, but I have no idea what a real world price on these is, especially used, scoped and without case or shotgun barrels. Any thoughts, either on value or on whether these are satisfactory hunting rifles? The only reason I'm considering it is that I can't use the irons on my .250-3000 double rifle anymore and this might be an affordable solution, particularly if I sold the .250. It's never likely to see anything larger than a PA whitetail or black bear, so the caliber is plenty large for any hunting I'd ever do. Thanks.

40x,
IMO around $5700- $5900. I'd figure $6700 for a used two barrel set. Less $2000 for the 20 ga barrels + $1000 for the scope.

Thanks Ken. That helps me evaluate how to approach this.

[img] [/img] I've got a similar configured Beretta in '06 and find it pretty handy. It really likes 200 grain bullets!

I'm sure the Beretta and the Browning are equipped with very high quality mounts, correctly installed. However, they are unneccesarily high, especially the Browning considering the shotgun stock. The Browning guy goes a long way to avoid giving good information or pictures about the mounting procedure. Are the holes drilled through the barrel or is the mount soldered on? I can't tell. Nice price so far.

The high mounts are pretty typical with any scope mounted double. There are clearance constraints to operating the lever.

I realize that the Europeans mount their scopes high, but that Browning scope has about another 3/4" before I would have a problem with the lever. I would have to factor in another mounting when considering the price. The one pictured would have to go.

Did Browning offer mounts for the Express Rifle? I've looked at several and have never saw one so equipped. My Beretta did come with factory installed claw mounts.

I have not seen a Browning Express in this country with what I know to be factory mounts. Beretta Model 689s with factory mounts are scarce. I've never examined one closely.
