Neat gun Ken, glad you took it home. I admired it also at the Southern. I only noticed the gun the second time through the tents, mistook it for a Smith the first time through. I wish I had more to add to the discussion. The city of Boston was really a hive of interesting and talented gunmakers.

Thanks, Ken. I'm thrilled to have such a high grade gun for the money. I think it is really special, perhaps one of a kind. Will turn over every rock I can to find some answers.

I saw a gun like that at the Southern SxS last week, but that is nothing like my gun. That is American Arms, mine is A. E. Whitmore, Maker, Boston, Mass., and is a highly engraved sidelock ejector gun. Daryl should be posting some pics for me sometime today. But thanks, Researcher.

Here are some of Ken's photos. I have never seen a sidelock Whitmore hammerless.

Awesome gun. The engraving on the breech balls is pretty similar to my American Arms Co Whitmore. The hinge pin on my guns are tapered and adjustable to take up wear, your hinge pin looks like it might be as well. Id like to see what the pattern looks like on the barrels. Thanks for sharing pics of your gun, its really a neat find.

Reb, you are right. I just looked at a American Arms Co [Whitmore Pat. but not so marked] and it has the same engraving motif as yours and Ken's gun on the breechballs.

Would the maker be the same Whitmore whose name is attached to the lifter opener Remington hammer guns?

Looks like a very nice gun! Congratulations on picking up on it.

Ken, your pictures didn't show the buttplate. Most American Arms [Whitmore hammerless] guns I have seen have the Bluffton , Arkansas address on the buttplate. What does yours have ?
