If you grind away the insert rim where it would contact the extractor of the gun itself, the extractor on a ten gauge gun will extract a 12 gauge shell and the insert should remain in the gun. That's the way I use mine although other methods are just as convenient. I am using hand made inserts, but the gauge mates should work the same way if modified. I have bought a full set of ten gauge gauge mates but have not yet used them. I have used the hand made inserts in eight and ten gauge for years with good success. I have ground various amounts of the rim away to facilitate removal of empties. It has always been an experimental process.

I think that gun has come down at least $3k since it was first listed. Wonder how low it will go.

I don't see the 10 ga. extractor lifting only the 12 ga. hull...could you post some pics of this phenomenon happening ?

I wonder what the gun weighs with the 12 barrels? I hope the weight listed is for the ten ga. barrels. Ten plus pound guns have a very limited market. How would you like to tote a ten pound gun all day? If the 12's are eight pounds think of how poorly balance those ten ga. barrels are on that gun and what a barrel heavy clunker it must be to swing.

The cracked fore end is a shame. Good reason to replace it if it was not such a pain to do it. Fore ends are often more labor intensive than butt stocks.

jOe, I don't need to post pictures. I've been using ten to twelve gauge inserts for years. When centered by the insert, many ten gauge extractors just barely grab the 12 gauge shell if the insert is ground away in the area of the extractor purchase. Unfortunately, this system will not work with an eight to twelve gauge insert. I have not had the nerve to try this with my eight to ten inserts. I think it would work but I don't choose to grind the rims away on these.

eightbore,

I know it will work fine. A decade or so ago, Russ, Oscar and a couple of other folks walked me through making 10-12ga adapters from brass. I actually turned down a pair of Ballard cases to make mine.

They have no rim and the 12ga hulls are extracted just fine. I have used them in three different 10ga's without any issues.

At the time that I made them, I posted step by step the instructions given to me and the pictures I had taken. Coincidently, this morning while looking in my transferred files on my computer, I found that very post archived with the pictures.

I could post them, but jOey would have to kiss my a** before that would happen.

That Cabela's three barrel set might have some balance issues, but damn the whole ideas is nice. It would make a nice combination w/ my Linder barreled W&C Scott.

I'm not sure I would subject the frame and wood to 3 1/2" tens, but a nice 2 7/8" load would be nice. Might even shoot small steel shot through those barrels.

The chambers measure 3" on this gun, looks like I'm going to have to pass.
Thanks again, JB
